CAN YOU HANDLE IT???

Are you interested in being a member of an EXCLUSIVE organization? How about one that has repeatedly sent teams to State and National Championships, and was the 2007 National Championship Winner?  Are you interested in learning how to be an effective leader?  How about improving your honesty, integrity, discipline, loyalty and honor - and having fun while you’re doing it?

Then take a chance and see what you're made of!!!

Since it’s inception in 2002, the Flanagan High School NJROTC has made a TREMENDOUS difference in the school and community! There are numerous before and after school competitive teams, lots of weekend events, an Annual Ball, and so much more. The program is open to students enrolled in grades 9 through 12 who are U.S. citizens or nationals, or are lawfully aliens admitted to the U.S. for permanent residence.  Students must be physically qualified to participate in the physical education program, have a 2.0 or higher GPA, be able to maintain acceptable standards of conduct and comply with grooming standards as set forth by the Unit Commander.  While these requirements may seem like a lot, in reality nearly every single student attending Flanagan is capable of meeting them.

As an elective, students will regularly participate in classroom studies, learn how to march with a rifle and also take part in a physical training program each semester they are enrolled.  Students will also be able to participate in field trips, earn community service hours, and develop public speaking skill.  More importantly, students that successfully complete two semesters (back-to-back) and pass two Physical Fitness Tests (one each semester) can earn .5 physical education credits toward graduation.  Students who successfully complete two back-to-back semesters can also earn a .5 performing arts credit necessary for graduation.

In addition to the academic part of the program, NJROTC also offers a number of voluntary extracurricular events.  These include athletic teams, air rifle teams, orienteering teams (that teach students how to use a compass and a map), and drill teams, all of which compete against other high schools throughout the county and the state.  Some of the major extracurricular events planned for the new school year include a competitive fun meet at Central High School (near Tampa) in October, numerous orienteering and air rifle meets, and participation in several athletic/drill team “field meets”.  The Falcon Battalion will host our annual "sanctioned" field meet early in November, and another field trip to a "surprise" location in the Spring.

So, why not give us a try?

Ask your guidance counselor to sign you up for Naval Science and Leadership Education (i.e., NJROTC)!  To be clear, this program IS NOT designed to recruit or encourage students to join the military!  Instead, it teaches self-discipline, self-confidence and provides hands-on leadership training to help young adults successfully meet life's challenges.  Remember; there are no military obligations and there are no up-front, out-of-pocket expenses.
