ENGLISH 2

Supply List – English 1 Honors

• Pencils
• Pens for class work (blue or black only)
• Pens for editing/proofreading (green/red/purple)
• Loose leaf paper
• Binder or folder for work
• 3 X 5 CARDS
• DryLine Liquid Paper (no liquid or pens)
• High lighters (at least 2 colors)
• A novel for in-class reading time

I will be providing each student with a notebook for in-class journaling. They will also have a folder for on-going work. This folder should be cleaned out periodically so that work can be reviewed by parents.

English 1 Honors – THEME

“FACING MONSTERS”

We will be studying a variety of texts during the term. Some of the titles include: The Sniper, The Most Dangerous Game, The Odyssey, and Romeo and Juliet. Students will be asked to do independent reading and well as reading in class. Being honors level students, they will also be required to read at least one independent novel a month and provide written feedback regarding that book . Honors students will also work on the research process and complete a project incorporating those research steps.

Class Rules (applies to all classes)

Come to class on time, I begin class when the bell rings.

• Bring your materials to class daily; be responsible for your own academic success.
• Be ready to learn, no phones/cameras/iPods/or other electronics. These items will be confiscated and given to the security office.
• Have respect for yourself and others. This means that we all dress appropriately and use language which expresses common decency. Attitudes and actions should reflect the same.
• Food and drink are for breakfast and lunch. Only bottled water with a lid is allowed in the classroom.
• Regarding discipline issues, please consult the Code of Conduct handbook.

My job as an educator is to come to class prepared to engage my students in academic enrichment. The job of the student is to be prepared for that time of engagement. This means having materials, completing homework, and being ready to begin when the bell rings. Students are in class for a mere 18 weeks and there is a great deal to accomplish.

These are a couple of pointers to keep in mind. They will aid in the successful completion of English Honors 1.

• Keep your agenda and use it. It will become your friend. I do not accept late homework or projects. No work means NO GRADE. I expect you to manage your time wisely.
• I do not have a planning period. If you need help, see me between 7-7:20 AM or go to tutoring after school. I also do not discuss grades in class. Class time is not for that, class time is for everyone. I have the morning time available and an email address, if there is something that you would like to discuss.
• Academic success is a two-way street. My job is to provide you with the opportunities to demonstrate what you have learned. As a student, you need to make the most of those opportunities. I can’t evaluate what you have learned if you don’t read, study, or do the assignment.
