Week #4
ESOL students are unfamiliar with the process of writing a paper, even short essays. English grammar is structured differently and sentences are difficult for them to form. While it is important for them to learn, the following insights may help reduce your frustration level and increase their success rate.
1.
Provide a model of the paper
or essay.
2.
Provide a step by step
guideline. Use visuals for support.
3.
Allow the ESOL student to
work with a classmate whom speaks the same first language. This is not intended as a recommendation of
group work, but to allow the student to ask questions and have his work
reviewed by someone who can communicate with him.
4.
I have two Spanish-speaking
aides available to assist when needed.
