Setting a
specific time frame for yourself will help you to organize your thoughts as
well as your time. When you are being tested for the Florida
Writing Assessment, a practiced time frame should be used. Here is an organizer
for you to pace yourself properly for the test.
1. Take 2
minutes for reading.
Read the
directions carefully. (Murmuring is suggested.) Underline the instructional
words (such as explain, describe, identify, persuade, convince) that
direct what you are to do.
2. Take 6
minutes for prewriting.
Jot down
your ideas. Use at least one of the prewriting forms to begin. Suggested
activities are outlining, listing, or clustering.
3. Take 2
minutes for organizing.
Organize
your material. You might want to number your ideas in the order which would
make the best presentation. Also make sure that you have considered your
audience. Also plan your thesis statement.
4. Take 25
to 30 minutes for drafting.
To be
certain your paper is as readable as possible (to make your handwriting neat
and legible). Keep going back to your planning sheet. If new ideas occur while
you are drafting, make a quick note on the planning sheet.
5. Take 10
minutes for editing and revision.
~ Check and
polish your essay (You may want to make minor adjustments). Check
spelling, grammar, and
usage. Check to be sure that you have used the best word for the meaning you
wish to convey.
