Purposes of a Frayer Model

1.     Study a concept in a relational manner.

2.     Analyze a concept’s essential and nonessential attributes.

3.     Use as a “before” reading strategy to activate student’s prior knowledge.

4.     Use as a pre-assessment to determine students prior knowledge on a topic.

5.     Use as an “after” reading guide for students to relate the known (before) information to the newly learned information.
