Cause & Effect
Cluster
This strategy helps students recognize cause and effect
relationships. This strategy may be used
to look at one item as a cause. It can
also be used to show one item as an effect.
v Step 1:
Students create two circles on their papers.
v Step 2:
Students fill in one circle with a cause and one circle with
an effect.
v
Step 3:
For the cause
circle, the arrows representing the effects point outward (graphic #1). Students write the effects of the concept or
event in the circle on the arrows.
v
Step 4:
For the effect circle, the arrows representing
the causes point inward
(graphic #2). Students
write the causes leading to the particular effect on
the arrows.
v Tip:
A cause is the reason that something happens. An effect is the result, or what happens
because of the cause.
Cause - Why? Because…
Effect - What happens?
