accepted as is.
The future dates for SAC for
the 2004-2005 school year are as follows:
December 12; January 23;
February 27; March 27; April 24; May 22
A revised school calendar
accompanied the packet distributed in SAC.
One can also access the new calendar on Browardschools.com. The FCAT has been moved to the week of March 13th and
March 20th for the reading, science, and mathematics portions. The writing test remains on the originally
scheduled date.
Joyce Hawkins spoke regarding
the mathematics test results. Of
Flanagan’s 9th and 10th graders, 64% are predicted to be
meeting proficiency (scoring three and above) if the current rate is
maintained. The district is at 60%
proficiency. Peggy Evans spoke regarding
Flanagan’s progress in writing. On
January 5th, Flanagan is going to hold a school wide writing
assessment. 11th and 12th
graders will have a prompt corresponding to that which they may see on the
SAT’s, whereas 9th and 10th graders will receive a prompt
more FCAT in nature. The 9th
and 10th grade scores will be graded first and students will be
pulled from classes for remediation prior to the FCAT writing test.
Discussion
of Recognition Funds
Students have about $7000 that they need to
decide how to disseminate. A committee
led by Eric Feldman and Yitan Li was created and is composed of both teachers
and students. They will solicit from
fellow students how it is they wish for the money to be spent.
Discussion
of Mid-Year Waiver
Earlier in the year, Flanagan
voted on whether or not there should be a fifteen minute homeroom class, once a
week on Wednesdays, to deliver important information to students and for students
to become close with a teacher who they may see as a mentor. Teachers voted against the waiver. However, SAC has voted to send the waiver out
again to see if teachers will accept it this time. It was brought up that teachers need to have a
better idea as to what they will be doing during homeroom in order to feel
comfortable with voting for it.
There was no report from SAF. A report will be given next month.
Mr. Williams typed up a report
summarizing the data collected from the student/teacher/ parent surveys given
during the last three years. He asked
for SAC to rank the issues they feel need to be addressed from most important
to least important. Please consider the
improvement of student achievement when you are ranking the issues.
