-There has been a change of the SAC meetings dates

Henry Rose

-Originally we met on the 2nd Monday of the month. District asked us to change the dates so they can move things along quicker in district.

-Meetings will be 4th week of month to make communication better.

Meeting dates= 4th Mon. of every month.  The following specific dates need to be changed on the agenda:

24th Oct

21st Jan

27th March

-Make motion with by laws? (No discussion.  Motion passes.)

Carol

I will now ask Dr. Shaulis to discuss last year’s school grade.

Dr. Shaulis

-Scores were terrific last year. We are not a D school.

-Triple dosing of reading

-Teaming 9th grade

-Pleased to report results on report card.

-Level 3 and up students increased to 44% from 38%

-We moved forward, but are trying to move the 50th percentile

-We are trying to get kids to use FCAT Explorer

-Math up, and writing to all scores went up.

-Learning gains up – 50% of students made entire year’s gain

-The percentage of lowest 25% read gains in reading went up from 40-53%

-We were 1 point away from a “B” and are trying to get the grade changed. We asked about disputing it, but now it would only be if they made a mistake—they didn’t make one on calculations. We are trying to move to an “A” school this year.

-We had the highest reading gains in the county. Other schools in the county are asking

  us what we did.

-Teachers really were the ones that moved the grade and worked with students.

-Tried to take middle level kids and pushed them- we found that it worked well without

extra help.  Kids who didn’t get attention started to fall back.

-Used AMSCO books in Social Studies and Science. Make sure kids are looking at more difficult material.

-The Science score moved from 290-303. We were the top Science score in the district.

-We don’t want to rest. We added the Academy structure.

-Small schools work and structured environment works.

-We aligned administration, counselors, and teacher leaders by Academy.  It helps in the FCAT by focusing on students in their specific Academy to reach every student.

-We looked at the demographics and academics of students and finding out how to count them correctly. If we keep the records right, we increase the  student’s self-esteem and increase the FCAT score.

Carol Sheppard

-Next item: presentation of Flanagan academics.  Camille Barnett is the Academy Leader of Public and Human services.

Camille Barnett

Re Academies -  The reception is responsive and strong.  We have attainable and definite goals.

-The main goal is to make the student feel like he belongs. If you let them identify with something, they are bound to be connected with something.

-Problems solved in tracking them.

-The pathway is on schedule.

-Trying to get school involved makes the connection even closer. We hope to make a stronger hold on the student/parent connection

-We will be having an Academic Fair

-Students say they can connect and see it as positive.

Chip Osborn

-Look at SIP.  We added a goal to SIP, the high school reform (Goal #5).

-Final copy is due in September.

-Looking for feedback from the Area Office

-We need to thank Mr. Uchin for Parent call out.

-9th grade students on a team “focus academy”.

-10th grade students are on a team “focus academy”

-We thought we’d have a homeroom plan, but it didn’t pass.

-Low 30% of students assigned a mentor

-All Flanagan students were assigned an Administrator and Guidance Counselor by Academy

Sharon Shaulis

-Can we include parent/student/teacher survey as a goal? (Annual customer survey)

-Targeting areas in survey to improve and leaving it up to professional development leaders

Chip Osborn

-We had to adjust our objective up because we did so well in scores last year.

-Reset our goal by 2% on Objective 4 from 53% to 55%.

-We adjusted science up also, to 305 on objective #5.

-Action steps are essentially the same.

-Waiting for input from South Area Office and then we will be able to show you a final draft.

Jill Klosenberg

- SAF’s 1st meeting is September 1st

Sharon Shaulis

-The Superintendent asked all schools to have an alliance partner facilitating a leadership team and accepted by them.  I would like to have Ray Williams on the SAC voting board.

Henry Rose

-The by laws say the Principal can add members to SAC.

Sharon Shaulis

-Terri Williams is doing a terrific job with PTSA.

Terri Williams

-We have a list of meetings, but some have changed. I appreciate the support I’ve received. I also appreciate the new room.

Sharon Shaulis

-I would like Ray Williams to be endorsed as a member of SAC. (He was accepted.)

Carol Sheppard

-New business?

Osborn

-Smooth school opening. Everything is falling into place.

-The whole process of a better grade in the school is financially rewarded.  We don’t have a lot of details, but SAC will play key role in how money is distributed.

-Meetings may grow because SAC tells them what to vote on.

-Our baseball team became State Champions

-ROTC #2 in nation

-Mayor’s cup is coming up August 26th (Friday)

-On August 23rd , a week from tomorrow we have Open House at 6 pm

-Guidance parent info program on August 29th

Meeting adjourned.
