The Meeting Was Called To Order at 4:00 pm

The Pledge of Allegiance

Minutes from the last meeting were accepted after a few corrections.  June 15th – FCAT scores come out for the school

Joyce Hawkins

FCAT Math results comment:

-We decreased the number of students in the 1evel 2 category and increased the number of students in levels 3 and above.

-We have identified students at 30% and lower and the NRT level and placed them in Pre-Algebra classes.  We have also made it so that all teachers, regardless of the level that they are used to teaching, teach at least one Pre-Algebra/Alg 1 A class.

-We used the new Basil Adoption and are trying to see the impact of the change.

-When students take the PSAT’s on October 10th, we will have things in place to help those students who need it. We use the NRT for Pre-Algebra – the cut off is 30%.  At Algebra 1A there is no cut off. We also use the middle school recommendation.  66% was the average of 9th and 10th graders students who scored a 3-5 on FCAT – SSS.

Sharon Shaulis/Chip Osborn

We would like the students with higher scores to not be in 1A and 1B.  We are trying to streamline to catch students who are misplaced.  We used PSAT test scores and their GPA for 05-06 so that more students can be in the Honors and AP Classes for scheduling. The district did profiling using FACT scores and GPA. For students who showed potential for Honors and AP, virtual counselor was preset on this to make sure that they picked classes at those levels.  Students who don’t test well don’t show success on the FCAT.  How do we get them into those upper level classes and know who they are?

We have an articulation meeting.

Chip Osborn

Regular math middle school students are a challenge.  We have them covered based on their success in middle school grades in math, on FCAT scores and their teacher’s recommendation.

Carol Sheppard

-From Mary Cook (Reading Coach):  62% of 9th and 10th Graders were at level 1&2 last  year.  This year we had 51% at level 1 &2.

-This is considered a significant gain.

-Students who tested out of reading found their scores decrease, but if they stayed in the program, then their scores increased.

-More 9th and 10th graders are coming in as level 1 &2 from middle school, but this is seen as a positive because it will help us make our learning gain.

Henry Rose

Look at the Level 3 students who are lower in that area and have them take reading as well.  They may need it.

Sharon Shaulis

The Amsco books helped out.  We were able to give students double and triple dosing with those materials to help them with their reading.  We worked hard with the low 300’s  and put them in more rigorous classes.

Carol Sheppard

 Science Objective 5:

Goal is a mean score of 295

            Actual score was 303

-We need to revise the objective.  The objective needs to say 305 for a target score.

Chip Osborn

-We will look at suggested revisions from the District when we come back in August and finalize  the SIP in September.

-The Technology Plan – PSTF allots so much money each year.  We listed what we bought this year.

-2005-2006 projected purchases – looking for input – got some from the Media Specialists, Mr. O’Dowd and Mr. Narciza – make sure that we come close to what we were allotted.  We try to spend the whole allotment each year.

Jeff Uchin

Discipline plan needs interfacing it with the District discipline matrix.

We decided to leave the plan as it is.  The change came in VII (administrative consistency).  We are trying to keep discipline equal between the administrators – same discipline throughout the school year at all schools. Some areas are more unique to Flanagan’s Discipline policy. The tardy policy is under revision for next year.

Ms. Klosenberg is looking for Vice-Chair as School Advisory Forum

Jill Klosenberg _ SAF Elections for 2005-06

No parents came forward to be SAF chair for 2005-06.  Her son graduated.  It would be better if she volunteered to remain on as SAF chair and train the person who will take her place.

Carol Sheppard

I move that we elect Henry Rose by acclimation for SAF vice chair for 05-06.  So moved Mr Rose is SAF vice chair.

Chip Osborn

-We have some parents on SAC with students who graduated this year.  We would like to present Susan Royal, Daniella Sosa, and Susana Carrilo with a certificate that acknowledges their services.

-We also have a plaque for Henry Rose.  He has done an outstanding job working on the Falcon Foundation (Formerly known as the Get Flanagan a Stadium Foundation).  Congratulations!

We also have a plaque for Jill Klosenberg for her services with the School Advisory Forum.

Jill Klosenberg

SAF meets at 5pm.  SAC develops and monitor SIP with parental involvement, work with student achievement and new policies.  SAF is internal as well as external; all encompassing (example: boundary issues, District Advisory, gives input to School Board).  Any issue a student has, we can take outside the school or bring outside stuff in.

Sharon Shaulis – High School Reform Presentation

-We are working on an Academy/ Pathways / Small Learning Communities program that will focus on student achievement.

-It aligns with SIP.

-Every 9th will take Pathfinder and choose a Pathway / Academy.

-Students will receive cords for their work and it will allow for more community involvement.

-All teams will include a counselor or administrator who will be responsible for the Pathway.

-We will be looking at how we can increase our scores.

-Each academy can focus on their own students.

-Every advisory board would have certain members who represent different departments.

-We are looking at a 3 year plan.

Carol Sheppard

-August 15th is our next meeting.

-Graduation was exciting.

-We had a really nice group of speeches.

-One of the announcements at the end of Graduation was that our baseball team had won the 6A State Championships!

-Class of 2005 we wish you well.  Congratulations to everyone.  Have a great summer!
