Review of Minutes

Minutes were reviewed and accepted as is.

Teacher Report on FHS

Camille Barnett commented on the student group presentation of concerns from the November meeting.  She noted that, although their concerns were important, their input could be better used with regards to student achievement and other SAC issues.

Monitoring the SIP

A packet was distributed to members who were present and in it were questions for SAC members to ponder such as the effectiveness of SIP and possible actions that could be taken for its betterment.

Data Driven Decision Making

9th graders were grouped into five different teams based on their reading scores.  The lowest scoring 10th graders were organized into groups as well.  These students alternated the Great Source intensive reading program with Pathfinders throughout the school year.  An idea arose to invite our feeder middle school SAC members to hear our concerns and, perhaps, work as a unit rather than as separate groups to improve reading scores.

School Advisory Forum Issues

Teachers in high schools seem to come and leave with the bell schedule.  There seems to be little time for trainings and other tasks that need to be done.  How can this be reformed?

All technical schools will be graded according to the A+  Plan next year.

Result of the Waiver Vote

There will not be a 2nd Open House for this school year.  122 teachers voted against the waiver while only 17 teachers voted in favor of it.  In order for a waiver to pass, 66 2/3 of the faculty must vote and be in favor of it.

New Business

                No new business

Closing Remarks

Teachers, administration, and counselors are being paired with students to mentor and monitor the lowest scoring students.  Also, an SAT preparation course and Semantics/Logic course will be offered to students who scored high on the PSAT to help them increase their scores.  The meeting was adjourned at 5:00 p.m.
