Discussion/Finalization of objectives for school year 2004-2005

All coaches (reading, writing, and mathematics) reviewed the changes that were made in the objectives to the SIT plan.  A handout of these objectives was distributed at the meeting.  Peggy Evans further revealed that 91% of Flanagan’s FCAT population received a score of a 3 or above on the writing test.  The mean score for the persuasive writing was a 4.0 while the mean score for the expository piece was a 3.8.  The writing test is also changing in the upcoming school year.  The test will take two days and it will be composed of an essay and a multiple choice section, very similar to the changes that have occurred in the new SAT.  Students will be responsible for picking out errors in sentences.

Review of Discipline and Safety Plans for the School Year 2004-2005

A handout was also given which covered Flanagan’s discipline and safety plans.  Issues covered include tardies, profanity, detentions, forgery, communication, fire drills, dismissal procedures, and bomb threats.

SAF Issues

New on the agenda next year is the motion to allow students the ability to self administer over-the-counter medications.  Students must have parental permission forms.

New Business

Parents have received the parent nomination forms for the upcoming school year for SAC.  Faculty elections will occur next week.

Closing Remarks

The first two meetings for the upcoming school year are Monday, September 12, and Monday, October 11.  Also, there will be 16 pages in the student agenda books that will be dedicated to reading, writing, mathematics, and science.  These will be reference materials for the FCAT.
