Norms were established at the first meeting and were reviewed by Jeff Uchin:

·                    Turn off all cell phones

·                    Begin and end promptly

·                    No side-bar conversations

·                    No one person dominates the floor

·                    Everyone tries to participate

·                    Name tags for recognition

·                    Police area when meeting is adjourned

Review of Minutes

Minutes from the March 8th meeting were reviewed and accepted as written.

Future dates for SAC meetings:

          May 10th and June 1st

Report from Bev Gallagher, School Board Member

·                    Rumor control – email or call her office to get information (Office phone 754-321-2002, Email B.Gallagher@Browardschools.com

·                    Block scheduling is safe for another year.

·                    Flanagan Graduation – only facility large enough to hold everyone is the Office Depot Center – must be scheduled around hockey games – having Graduation on Tuesday was the only day available.

·                    Legislation – Bill 745 passed which will take $8 million dollars from Broward County next year, $16 million the following year and $24 million the year after that.  The School Board is filing an injunction against the state for not properly funding education.

·                    Pre-K has been buried due to lack of funding.

·                    School calendar – changing it has been talked about for many years (has nothing to due with FCAT testing) – they are trying to align more with college semesters.  School will begin August 16th in 2004 and August 8th 2005.

Ms. Sheila LeBlanc – Carl Perkins Grant

Flanagan received about $90,000 for this year – should know by April 30th if the grant is renewed for next year.

SAC Objectives for 2004-05

Will have drafts for all five objectives at the May meeting.  Talked about adding a Science objective – could get funding from SAC for teacher workshops, worksheets & materials.  SAC voted to add a Science objective to the plan for next year.

New Business

          Next year’s officers:

Faculty / Parents – will put a slate together between now and June meeting

Students – will be elected in the fall

The meeting was adjourned at 5:17 PM
